I'm already running out of ideas for titles...
My new unofficial leg coach Justin couldn't work out with me today. He had school or something. Loser. So I did legs on my own, and of course went right into my comfort zone, heavy strength training. 4 sets, 10 reps, lots of grunting and panting like an old woman. So, I will probably be plenty sore tomorrow. Though I think the stretching may help a little. I did calves tonight for the first time in FOREVER, and I enjoyed it! The book I mentioned in my last post has a bunch of different calve exercises. I'd heard of most of them, but there was one I hadn't done before. Standing in a squat position with weights and doing heel lifts. With your legs bent you target more calf muscles. And you get to see how much balance you have! I'm sure you will all hear about it if my calves are sore tomorrow! I do like to whine :)
And on a different note, have you seen Avatar??? My hubby took me to the Paladio (new movie theater in Folsom) to see it in 3-D on Saturday night. It was really really good! Of course, as one of my clients pointed out to me tonight (Kristine) I like all that Sci-Fi crap! Can't beat a good Vampire novel or movie about aliens!

Remind me not to pick up anything for you. LOL I will enjoy seeing you today. On my calves, I barely do anything, but strange enough when I go light with high rep I have a tendency to feel the soreness more and longer. I was actually told to stop training my calves so that everything else can catch up, my new trainer said everything else will take years to do that, so back to training calves I go. I am really enjoying my new focus of training, I do drop set (of course my pt trainer said its wrong, whatever)per my trainer will stimulate both fast and slow twitch fibers. Bob (my trainer) took time to inquire on what I have been doing and where I am and is working with that, the other person hasn't really ask questions and is just putting a book cover and telling me I should be doing supersets. I, as nicely as possible, told them that since I now have someone who is putting the time into this with me, I will be listening to their advice. Gotta tell it like it is. They had a chance to be on Team Trish.
ReplyDeleteOh and I so want to see Avatar, love Sci-Fi too. And even though I am a "believer", I really enjoy Vampire, werewolve movies and the like. I am capable of separating truth from made up.
ReplyDeleteThis is the loser. Glad your leg day went well without me. As it sounds, your day went similar to my leg day; I am on the MDT phase, so I am lifting heavy with compound lifts in a stable arrangement--just like you. Maybe next time I'll be less of a loser, and we can do them together.
ReplyDeleteI saw Avatar twice, and it was a great science fiction movie--very realistic--I wanted to be a Navi (sp?) and go to Pandora.
**Trish** It sounds like high reps for you lead to sore calves because you are either getting a could pump, and likewise, a good stretch to the muscle fascia. Or, you are tearing down more muscle because of the increase in volume. Try to do the same number of reps when lifting heavy, as you do when you go light, making sure to give equal attention to range of motion and form, just as you do when performing high reps; eg, if 3 sets of 25 reps gets you sore then do 75 "heavy" reps with 7-8 sets of 10 reps, so the volume is the same.
Justin - thanks I will try that.
ReplyDeleteKris - sorry for the parental influence that likely caused your Sci-Fi leanings ... of course Ron would say, "All those years making you kids watch Star Trek finally paid off!"
ReplyDeleteWe saw Avatar when it came out, but didn't know it played in 2D as well as 3D and went to a theater that only had 2D. There's only ONE theater up here that plays it in 3D - ridiculous! NEway, we thot it was beautiful, but want to go back & catch it in 3D to get the full effect.
Hope you aren't too sore tomorrow honey! ~Mom
I remember late-night Star Trek watching. It was great! Between that and Anne Rice I didn't stand a chance! DEFINITELY see Avatar in 3D before it's not showing anymore. Worth the money.
