Doing ANYTHING regularly over the past two weeks has been a challenge. I've been working totally different hours that I'm not used to. At the gym I was working mostly afternoons and evenings. Now, I wake up most mornings between 5 am and 6 am! Hell has frozen over. I haven't quite gotten the swing of going to bed early, so I compensate for my lack of sleep at night with long mid-afternoon naps! I took about a week and a half off of the gym, and got back into it last weekend. I went Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun and today. And I'm getting my tattoo worked on tomorrow so I couldn't do any weight-training today. Cardio only. They discourage weight-training within two days before a tattoo because of the swelling of the muscles and the healing process that occurs. Causes an increase in bleeding! Anyway, I hope you all are getting plenty of sleep and feeling motivated. Share some workout stories with me! I'd love to hear how you're all doing! Motivate me!!

3000

I didn't even work out today and I'm allready at a 2800 calorie burn : ) Some days are just like that. Well, it was hectic, but at least I get to look forward to hitting 3000 calories burned before midnight! 3 Musketeers, here I come! Seriously, for all you chocoholics, have you tried those candy bars? They have by far the least calories and fat out of any of the big-name candy bars, and they are so good! It's a great, much less guilt-giving way to treat yourself. I'm all about finding ways to treat myself!

Hellloooo!!! I am sitting on my bed propped up on pillows with my back on a hot pad. I haven't been to the gym to work out for two days because my back has been on the fritz again! Such is life. I have good months when I can work out 5 days a week for the better part of a year with NO PROBLEMS. Then there's times when I'm having to interrupt my routines almost weekly because my back is acting up. Overall it happens less often than it used to since I started weight training a few years ago. So, currently i'm useless. I have been trying to keep my calorie burn at least at 2500 a day even without my workouts. I love my bodybugg! Something I noticed (again) while I was working tonight seemed worth mentioning... Maybe some of you can feel my pain here, and maybe some of you just don't know about this and will gain some knowledge here. Gym ettiquete. What's happened to it? ESPECIALLY on a really busy night like Mondays, some gym manners would be AWESOME! We all have to share this space. A polite "Are you using this?" before you take over the cable Freemotion machine i'm standing next to... Putting your weights away when you're done using them so I don't have to spend 10 minutes looking for them... Wiping off the bench you just used and sweated all over... You know, manners! And possibly my biggest pet-peeve: You and your group of 5 "workout buddies" standing together for 20 minutes in front of the equipment I want to use talking about the hot chicks at the gym and the bar you all got smashed at last weekend. GRRRRRR... All I'm saying is be aware of your surroundings. If you're in people's way, move. Clean up after yourself. That way we can all enjoy our time there!

I'm already running out of ideas for titles...

My new unofficial leg coach Justin couldn't work out with me today. He had school or something. Loser. So I did legs on my own, and of course went right into my comfort zone, heavy strength training. 4 sets, 10 reps, lots of grunting and panting like an old woman. So, I will probably be plenty sore tomorrow. Though I think the stretching may help a little. I did calves tonight for the first time in FOREVER, and I enjoyed it! The book I mentioned in my last post has a bunch of different calve exercises. I'd heard of most of them, but there was one I hadn't done before. Standing in a squat position with weights and doing heel lifts. With your legs bent you target more calf muscles. And you get to see how much balance you have! I'm sure you will all hear about it if my calves are sore tomorrow! I do like to whine :) And on a different note, have you seen Avatar??? My hubby took me to the Paladio (new movie theater in Folsom) to see it in 3-D on Saturday night. It was really really good! Of course, as one of my clients pointed out to me tonight (Kristine) I like all that Sci-Fi crap! Can't beat a good Vampire novel or movie about aliens!

Bday Presents and Shoulders

Today was my Bday. 31 years old! And being the fitness enthusiast that I am, I spent a chunk of my happy Bday at the gym working out! Shoulders day. Next to abs, my least favorite body part to work out. I think it is probably because my shoulders are WEAK! A year ago or so I was pressing 20 plus pounds. Now I'm just barely getting back to 10 pound shoulder presses. I overextended my shoulder last year, and seem to have hurt myself. So I didn't even do shoulders consistently for over 6 months. Now I'm back into it, but I have to go pretty light because I don't have much strength, and because after a while my right shoulder starts to hurt. Hey, how many times do you think I can type the word "shoulder" in this post???!!! Anyway, I don't enjoy this particular part of my workout week, but today I was pretty excited. One of my clients got me a Border's gift card for my Bday and told me about this book she got as a gift. The Women's Health Big Book of Exercises. So I bought it, and so far, it's pretty cool! It's not just exercises. There's a section on why weight training is important, how to put together routines, frequently asked questions answered in simple terms, etc.. The shoulder exercises I pulled from the book to do today even explained how doing them can decrease common problems that cause pain in the neck and back! Pretty cool. Reverse shrugs, overhead presses with twists. Lots of rotations. All in all a pretty cool book. Of course, it's pretty basic and you still all need a PERSONAL TRAINER to show you how to correctly do these exercises and to help you integrate the gym into a healthy lifestyle outside the gym, RIGHT?!!! So don't hesitate to call me : ) And yes, my shoulders already hurt!

Pain in the...

I had a pretty good cardio session last night. 30 minutes on the bike, hill climb program. One of the things I like about cardio is that every time I switch modes (machines), I get a really high calorie burn! I've done bike twice this week and both days I burned almost 3000 calories total (for the whole day, not the half hour cardio session!) But I have to say that sometimes, newer is not better. I did the bike at Bradshaw 24 earlier this week, and at Calvine last night. I like the Bradshaw bikes much better, even though they're older! They're smoother and the seat is more comfortable and they have better programs to choose from. On a different subject, I think I'm getting girlier as I get older. And just because I have tattoos, short hair and black fingernails doesn't mean I cant be girly! I wear makeup now! Almost EVERY day! I like it, it makes me feel good, and it's a PAIN IN THE...!!! Being a fitness professional who works out regularly is not condusive to wearing makeup. I spend good time on primping before I leave, and I find myself hesitating to do cardio because I know I will sweat off all my hard work! Lame, lame, lame. I need to suck it up and just do it. But man, you guys are sooooooooo lucky you don't have to deal with these things!

I'm so glad to know that you all enjoy my pain so much! And here I thought we were friends :) Seriously though, it took like four days for my legs to stop hurting. Mrs. Anonymous, my body has definitely not submitted to me yet. But I'm working on it every week! BTW, for those of you who don't work out at the gym where I am currently employed, Mrs. "Anonymous" is a regular there with a TOTALLY amazing physique. She was the one who left the last comment on my last post about making her body submit at the gym, and she's not kidding! She is just getting into the world of fitness competitions, and I had figured she's always been fit. Anyone who sees her would think she must have always been fit. I mean, this girls body is rockin! BUT, she brought in a picture of her that was taken a few years ago, and MAN did she not always look like this. She worked hard to get her body from chunk to she-hunk! She also has a full time job, kids (plural), and a husband. Wow. It just goes to show that ANYONE can become fit and healthy if they put their mind to it. Props, Mrs. A! And when you make a profile for this blog, you should use one of your competition photos! Inspirational!
